Word is official; Scotty McCreey and Lauren Alaina are no more just finalists of the popular show American Idol. They now get to join the ranks of other famous country stars in the nation.

The two finalists of season 10 have been signed by the recording company Mercury Nashville/19 Recordings/Interscope in a bid to launch their first albums. In the past, Mercury Nashville has also represented famous country stars like Shania Twain, Sugarland, Jamey Johnson and Easton Corbin.

While the complete album is still months away from release, both singers have already made their way on Billboard charts with their debut songs, which they sung on the season finale of American Idol. McCreey’s song “I Love you This Big” was awarded No 11, securing the Hot 100’s Hot Shot Debut title. It also got lodged on No 3 on Digital Songs, a total of 171,000 downloads, as claimed by Nielsen SoundScan. Furthermore, it grabbed onto the Billboard’s Country Songs chart by securing position No. 32 as a new artists debut single ever since the survey took up BDS data from January 20th, 1990.

On the other hand, Alaina’s debut “Like My Mother Does” nabbed the No 20 spot on Hot 100 charts and also came No 11 on the list of Digital Songs with 121,000 downloads. Earlier on during the show, Alaina also was declared a favourite of country radio with her song being played at No. 49.

Commenting on his deal with the recording label, McCreery said he was “humbles and shocked” by it and “can't tell you what it means to me to be on the same charts as my musical heroes. I want to thank my fans and especially country radio for their support. I continue to be amazed by everything that has happened to me in such a short time.”

This is the first time in the history of American Idol, that the two finalists have been signed by Universal Music Group. The idols are usually represented by 19 Entertainment which also produces the show. However, this year 19 Entertainment signed a deal with UMG’s Interscope Geffen A&M, after a nine year long deal with Sony Music Group. Pia Toscano, who finished in ninth place this season, has also stared recording her first album with Interscope producer Rodney Jerkeins.

As the careers of other singers are in the process, McCreery’s has already been launched. His new song “Out of Summertime” has already been leaked to the public and promises to be the 17 year old’s next super hit.
