Sam Smith last night won the Academy Award for Best Original Song with the soundtrack "Writing`s On The Wall".
The artist dedicated the award to the LGBT community: "I read an article that said no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar, and if this is the case, I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world,"
Smith said as he collected his prize. I stand here tonight as a proud gay man and I hope we can all stand together as equals one day." "Writing`s On The Wall" competed for Best Original Song with "Earned It" (The Weeknd) and "Til It Happens To You" (Lady Gaga).
