Details about One Direction’s sophomore album are out and according to the press release, the band has not titled their album as yet but have gone full throttle when it comes to collaborating with pop superstars. The album will have contributions made by stars like Dr. Luke, Shellback and Toby Gad, as well as content from Ed Sheeran and McFly lead vocalist Tom Fletcher. The lyrics will be composed by Savan Kotecha and Rami Yacoub & Carl Falk who are responsible for the band’s initial hit "What Makes You Beautiful" and "One Thing”.
The band got their breakthrough in 2010 during the UK’s adaptation of “The X factor”. It comprises members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles and their first collaborative effort "Up All Night" managed to secure No. 1 spot on Billboard on its debut. The album sold 176,000 copies in the month of March according to statistics compiled by Nielsen SoundScan. The band got further recognition as their debut album was the first in history from UK which went to a No. 1 position on USA Billboard 200.
“Up All Night” is still performing well with 1.1 million copies sold so far and is in close proximity to the number one album which is Adele’s “21”. “21” has sold almost 4 million copies for the current year. But, not to belittle the band’s efforts, "What Makes You Beautiful" is currently the seventh largest selling digital song and has been downloaded 3.3 million times, already.
The band is expected to wind up a tour of USA in July and will do a few shows on stateside. Their most looked forward event is the scheduled performance at New York's Madison Square Garden on December 3. The band has a busy year ahead as well as they embark on a world tour, after that. The initial run would comprise of performances in 25 cities throughout USA, starting on June 13, 2013. The kick off venue would be Ft. Lauderdale, Fla, with the ending on August 7 in LA.
