Surviving week after week of tough challenges, country singer John Rich has finally emerged as the winner on the popular reality show “The Celebrity Apprentice”, thereby winning around $250,000 for charity. The finale aired on Sunday was between the singer and actress Marlee Matlin. The host of the show Donald Trump claimed that this result was the hardest ruling he ever made on the show.
"I've never had to go through something like this... You've both been amazing," Trump told the pair before announcing his choice on the live portion of the program.
This year’s season of “Celebrity Apprentice” kicked off in March with 16 candidates all participating in different business oriented challenges across Manhattan to raise money and draw attention to their favorite charities. The last task required the contestants to create publicity campaigns for a popular brand of soda. The singer of the duo of Big & Rich, John Rich has successfully won the competition for a $250,000 check for his charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Maitlin, who took home the Academy Award of 1987 for best actress for her role in “Children of a lesser God,” was competing for the Starkey Hearing Foundation.
Before the winner was announced, both contestants together performed a song, “For the Kids,” which was sung by Rich and Matlin who happens to be deaf, made sign gestures.
Most of the participants who had been removed from the show earlier were invited for the finale, but a notable absence was of Richard Hatch, who was taken to prison after being accused for tax evasion several weeks ago.
When other contestants were asked to comment on Hatch’s predicament, a former teen idol David Cassidy, who often had conflicting opinions with Hatch, smiled and said, "I think he's in the right place at the right time."
Trump was heading over the show only six days after announcing that he would not be running for the Presidential elections in 2012. For a long time, Trump toyed with his decision to run for the White House candidacy gaining attention coincidentally just before his show was due to be aired. During an NBC meeting for advertisers last Monday, he announced that next season, he will return with another season of “Celebrity Apprentice”.
