Devo Severs Ties With Warner Bros, Lambaste Romney In Their New Song
05.09.12

Ohio based group Devo, which came into being under tragic circumstances of Kent State University Shootings around 40 years has chosen to lambaste the Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney with their upcoming song titled "Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro! (Seamus Unleashed).” The group has chosen a very befitting time for the song’s release, which is only a day after the Republican National Convention.

It will be released through iTunes on Sunday, coinciding with the National Dog Day. Penned by Gerald Casale and recorded on August 7; the song highlights the mistreatment Romney meted out to their family dog named Seamus, when he racked him to the roof of a station wagon and took a 12 hour long drive to Canada in 1983.

"You just don't get the sense that there's a heart inside Romney," Casale declared talking to Billboard. He further stated that song is in no way to be taken in favor of current President Barrack Obama. “There is still to me a difference between the two of them, and the difference is mostly about character of the man."

Casale was a donator to Obama’s election campaign back in 2008. He has recently initiated RememberSeamus.com and hands out memorabilia like shirts and others, bearing the dog’s likeness. The site is working in collaboration with merchandise manufacturer; CafePress and a portion of the money from the sale of their memorabilia will be handed to no-kill animal shelters, stated Casale.

This entire marketing campaign is going forward without the patronage of Warner Bros that chose to disassociate with the band last September, just after one album. Their album “Something For Everybody” wasn’t a flop! It has sold 53,000 digital and physical copies since it was released in June 2010. (Statistics compiled by SoundScan)

"There's really no reason for us to be with a record label right now," Casale declared. "I like that idea of using songwriting in a different way, and you can't even think about releases and albums anymore. It's kind of irrelevant to the creative space online and the way people buy things now."

Warner Bros allied with Devo in the fall of 2009 and termed the hookup as “Unique, ground breaking worldwide partnership”. The deal gave Warner Bros the privilege to handle multiple aspects of the band’s activities like recordings, touring and merchandising.
