Chaka Khan may be royalty in the music industry, however at present she too has her plate full. High up on her list right now is a duets album based on a Led Zepplin song, with the leading man of Aerosmith and American Idol judge Steven Tyler right by her side.
"We literally just clicked," Khan commented about Tyler. "We were at Elton John's party and we got to talk and we both wanted to sing together. We said, 'Let's do a mutual song, by you know, a neutral band -- a band that we both love,' and we both love Zeppelin."
The singer behind the hit ‘I’m Every Woman’ is set to record the duet of a Zepplin song with Steven Tyler. The song which has not been finalised as yet will be a part of the soon to be released double duets album.
But partnering up with Tyler is not all, Khan is also in the middle of joining hands with well known artist Akon for a jazz-ical concert to be held in honor of celebrity artist Joni Mitchell. For this concert, Khan will be working side by side, popular jazz singers like Herbie Hancock and Glen Hansard of the Swell Season. The show will be held on August 17 this year at the Hollywood Bowl.
Having a duets album, a huge concert, and number of tour dates strewn nearby (as well as a performance on Blue Note Jazz Festival in NYC) under her sleeve, it is a wonder, how the star manages to keep everything in order.
"I pretty much just live in the moment, and I always have," says the singer. "Whatever happens, you gotta go with it, and I've been really blessed with this life choice that I made, which makes me happy. Keeps me sane. It's an all-around good thing that I turned out to be a singer."
Chaka Khan will soon receive distinction for all her achievements at the annual dinner for Songwriters Hall of Fame awards to be held in NYC on June 16. There she will also be presented with the Howie Richmond Hitmaker Award.
