5 Songs Simon Cowell does not Want You to Sing

Simon Cowell, the popular American Idol’s judge, has recently provided a list of songs that he absolutely doesn’t want to hear in the American Idol’s audition rounds. He has disclosed this during a conference call, to campaign for the Sept 21st debut of X factor on Fox channel. The list is as follows

  1. “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly
  2. “At Last” by Etta James, which according him, he is “allergic” to.
  3. “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers
  4. “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz
  5. “Ordinary People” by John Legend, which he believes can’t be sung better than John.

While giving out his list, Cowell, very much in his habitual way, described how the show was better than “The Voice” of NBC. Moreover, he put special emphasis on X Factor back stories and applauded Antonio L.A Reid while targeting Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.

Cowell said, “Nicole was (odd) in a fantastically self-centered way and she wasn't even aware of it. In every city, she changes her accent. In New York City, she has a Brooklyn accent; in Dallas she has a twang.” He added, “"With Paula, within five minutes of a shoot she's not aware that the cameras are not on any more and she's still prepared to argue." Talking about their reunion, he said, "It's like getting your old dog back from the pound."

Cowell, while talking about the back stories of the participants, considered them highly important for making a show successful. He said, “If you don't have (singer profiles), people will switch off.”

According to him, "The Voice didn't do it as well as us”. He considers it a crucial part of the format, as he says, “Anyone can mentor, but can you mentor and create a star? He continued, “I got frustrated (on 'Idol') when we weren't allowed to do things with the contestants on a weekly basis. That's why some contestants haven't done that well. (It became) a popularity contest, which is why you have to update the process and take risks."
