Lil Jon is a stage name of Jonathan Smith, American hip hop artist, born on January 17, 1971. He is considered to be one of most famous musicians from Atlanta, Georgia.
He began as night club DJ, working across many establishments across his home city. When fellow rappers Big Sam and Lil’ Bo revealed their willingness to work together with him and formed a band named Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz. It didn’t take much time for them to produce and release first album, “Get Crunk, Who U Wit” and release it in October of 1997. Boys didn’t like how Mirror Image handled distribution of this album, therefore they founded their own label – BME Recordings. With its help, they released first successful album – “We Still Crunk!!”. It featured 17 tracks and most popular among them was “I Like Dem Girlz”, which peaked at third spot in Hot Rap Singles chart. Lil Jon did three more albums with these boys, and then moved on to pursue solo career with album “Crunk Rock” which was released in 2010. While it received mixed reviews from critics, chart performance was okay, even if not groundbreaking. After this he started to do other things, for example he once participated in Celebrity Apprentice TV show, which was hosted back then by future President Donald Trump. As of 2017, his latest hip hop offering is song “Take It Off”, made together with Becky G.
