Jhené Aiko

Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo was raised in Ladera Heights, California. Her work is inspired by Tupac, Kendrick Lamar and Kid Cudi. After appearing with song on the soundtrack for “Master of Disguise” movie, she was noticed by producer and film director Chris Stokes. He helped her to appear on few more soundtracks, but ultimately she returned to continue education without leaving mark on industry. Second try came in 2011, when mixtape “Sailing Soul(s)”, which allowed her to sign contract with ARTium record label. It wasn’t until late 2014 however that she was able to release full album. “Souled Out”. It combined alternative R&B genre with psychedelic music, hip hop and neo soul. Probably because it took so long for Jhene to properly launch her career, album is filled with themes of life lesson, women hardships and heartbreaks. Still, it has decent financial success for a debut album – it opened on third spot of Billboard 200, selling more than 70000 copies during first seven days. Three singles from album – “Spotless Mind”. “The Pressure” and “To Love & Die” sold additional 121000 copies in United States. After a tour with J.Cole, she began working with Big Sean on joint album “Twenty88”. It was released in early 2016, getting mixed critic reviews and selling slightly less than her previous offering.
