Jay Z is a well-known rapper from Brooklyn. His records sold more than 100 million copies and received twenty-one Grammy.
After having troubles with signing contract with major label, he had to resort to selling CDs from his car, and fund his own label this way – Roc-A-Fella Records. After this label agreed distribution deal with Priority, Jay manages to release “Reasonable Doubt”, first album and already with guest appearance of such star as Notorious B.I.G. Production of second album was way more glamorous and capitalist, which even worried some fans that Jay has sold out. Nevertheless, “In My Lifetime, Vol 1” sold just as well as first offering. Where is volume one, there is gotta be two. And “Vol.2 Hard Knock Life” followed quickly. It contained one of his biggest hits ever, song “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)”. It won a Grammy, even though Jay boycotted it. As of 2013, he released 12 albums in total.
Apart from his music career, he also known as a husband of famous singer Beyoncé, whom he dated for four years and married in 2008. He gave her a wedding ring worth 5 million USD for this occasion. He is also a successful entrepreneur, owning clothing brand Rocawear and co-owning “40/40 Club” bar in New York.
