Cherilyn Sarkisian was born on May 20, 1946, in California. The singer first appeared on the music scene as one-half in a duet Sonny & Cher. Their song “I Got You Babe” hit No.1 in the US and the UK charts. Meanwhile, she also started her solo career. In 1966 she released the song “Bang Bang” and managed to sell almost 1 million copies of it. In the 70s she appeared on television with her own show “The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour”. 30 million people watched it weekly during 3 years. Later she became known as a fashion icon, by wearing complicated outfits during her performances and shows. Later Cher performed in the films “Mask” and “Silkwood”. The role in “Moonstruck” brought her Academy Award for Best Actress. Simultaneously Cher worked on creating rock albums “Love Hurts” and “Heart of Stone”. The next album “Believe” (1988) brought the singer high commercial success. Her tour from 2002 to 2005 is known to be one of the highest grossing tours of all times. During it, Cher earned almost $250 million.
