Bob Marley & The Wailers

Bob Marley and the Wailers were a popular reggae group led by Bob Marley. It was created in 1963, Kingston, Jamaica by Marley, Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh. Soon Beverley Kelso, Cherry Smith, and Junior Braithwaite joined the band. They were known as the Teenagers, the Wailing Wailers, the Wailing Rudeboys and, at last, the Wailers. In the 70s the guys started playing various musical instruments. They added bass and drums to their rhythm section. The group started recording In Jamaica and soon was signed to Great Britain’s Island Records. In 1973 they released their debut “Catch a Fire” and “Burnin’”. The albums were much criticized but didn’t hit the top charts. The Wailers cooperated with Lee “Scratch” Perry and his famous group the Upsetters. The band’s single “Simmer Down” hit top charts in Jamaica. They also worked with Leslie Kong. Bob Marley and the Wailers got a lot of success during the 70s and 80s. They last performed together at Madison Square Garden in 1980. In 1981 Bob died. Soon after them several group members also passed away.
